Coimbatore: Murali (42) from Perur petitioned the District Collector K Rajamani complaining that private buses plying to Singanallur in Coimbatore charge passengers a higher bus fare during night hours.
He noted in his petition that he had paid Rs.15 instead of Rs.9 which was the actual bus fare.
Murali mentioned that private buses are collecting extra fare during weekends since there are more passengers who need to go to the Singanallur bus stand during weekends for boarding buses to the southern part of the District. He stated that the private buses are charging Rs.15 for a Rs. 9 ticket, citing extra luggage as the reason for the hike.
Murali also mentioned in the petition that he did not have any luggage with him and it was their tactic to fleece more out of passengers. Murali also noted that he had boarded the bus from the Gandhipuram town bus stand at 9:45 pm whereas the ticket showed the time as 10:13 pm. Murali highlighted these illegal practices by private buses and requested the District Collector to take immediate action against such private bus owners.
